Generation Science ClubGeneration Science Club is a network of high level people who have been successful in science and technology and associated areas and want to give something back. The members are determined to give youngsters experiences of science that are inspiring and confidence building. Over the last four years Club members have worked to enable children at schools in areas of social disadvantage to participate in inspirational touring science shows and workshops from Generation Science. They have donated over £350,000 to reach 60,000 children. These funds have also contributed to Generation Science visits to 50,000 children each year across all of Scotland's 32 regions. The Club holds meetings with influential scientists and leaders. We have breakfasted with Sir John Sulston, Lord Winston, Professor Ian Wilmut and Professor Peter Ghazal. Members have lunched with Baroness Helena Kennedy and dined with Sir John King, Professor Wilson Sibbett and Baroness Greenfield. Each year Club Members with their children join the Edinburgh Science Festival Launch Party and attend the prestigious Edinburgh Medal. The Club is supported by Scottish Executive and the members are able to influence science education in Scotland. The Members are role models for children demonstrating achievements they can aspire to. |
Generation ScienceGeneration Science is a venture by the Edinburgh Science Festival. Generation Science each year tours inspirational science shows and workshops to over fifty thousand children at schools across all of Scotland. Its activities help to improve science communication and build children's self confidence. Generation Science believes that by improving science education we can build a better society.
Generation Science improves science education by delivering eighteen involving science shows and hands on workshops to children in primary schools. Each activity links with the curriculum and provides teachers with inspiring moments that motivate their pupils. They leave a legacy of a shared experience which teachers can return to over the academic year. They help teachers to make science and technology appealing to their kids. The activities are full of fun discovery and excitement. By reaching children when they are young science can capture their imaginations and provide "Aha" moments of personal discovery that will last a lifetime. The activities provided cover topics including:
The Generation Science shows and workshops are valued by teachers. Over ninety five per cent of teachers surveyed find that Generation Science motivates children's enthusiasm for science. |
